Our Journey
Karuneshwar Old Age Care House run by Karuneshwar Charitable Trust is currently operational at Bhanghar Umroli in Panvel taluka to serve the paralyzed and destitute elderly.
This institution was founded by Shri. Ishwar Athmaram Dhore and his wife Mrs. Karuna Ishwar Dhore, with the help of a total of twelve members of his family who serve the people there with a very caring attitude. Mr. Ishwar Dhore has himself grown-up in Dr. Baba Amte's organization, and started working in his Anandvan organization. He also worked with Dr. Prakash Amte. After working there from 1994 to 2000, he then worked for 9 years serving lepers at Shantivan in Panvel taluka.
At that time he was living in Chiple , Revubai Bhandare, a woman from Sangli, was first taken care of by him at his house in 2009. After that, 2 more members of the Jethanani family from Panvel were kept with him. One member of the family is still in their ashram.
As the number of old people gradually increased, it became difficult to take care of this growing house in Chiple ,Ishwar and his friends then decided to build an ashram there by donating all the present land they had taken for their residence.
When it was decided to build on the present site, Sarpanch of Bhanghar Shri. Shantaramji Popeta came forward to help. And with the help of the architect Shri. Vaibhav Kargutkar, the building was constructed free of cost in 2014 and the ashram was shifted from Chiple to Bhanghar. Homeless, physically handicapped, elderly women and men are taken care of here. The services includes monthly medical check-ups for all the elderly and giving them medicines and water from time to time. Some have diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, so extra care is taken by the Ashram. Those who have diseases like diabetes, etc. are checked weekly. Filtered water is available for drinking.
